Virtual Board Games

Kids no longer seem to ever want to play board games.  While you may have fond memories of Scrabble, Monopoly, Yahtzee, and Boggle, it can be difficult to convince your children to put down their video games and try out these “old fashioned” forms of entertainment.  However, many different video game systems have translated these classic board games into online games, so even if it’s in a different format, you can introduce your kids to your old favourites via these virtual board games.

There are several different collections of classic board games for the Nintendo DS, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, Wii, PC and Xbox.  Some are translations of classic games like those listed above.  In fact, there are many different collections out there that contain several different games.  There’s actually a PC game collection that contains 1000 variations of different board and card games!

The second group of virtual board games is aimed at any players, but adults especially enjoy them.  These include online chess, Mahjongg, and many different card games.  If you only have a few minutes to kill, you can play one of your favourite solitaire card games.  On the other hand, if you have more time, you can challenge the computer to a game of chess.  Some chess games even let you play online against other players or conduct an email game with distant friends.  There are also a number of online and virtual poker games for those who want to bet it all without actually losing any money.

Finally, there are virtual versions of some popular collectible card games.  You may have children who love collecting Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh cards.  Well, in addition to playing the card game with their friends, they can also purchase video game versions of these games.  These games are sometimes even more enjoyable than the actual card games because kids don’t have to keep up with the cards, plus parents don’t have to continually buy them more cards!

As you can see, while we may no longer be living in the age of board games, many of these classics are still with us in a new form.  These virtual board games can be just as fun as the original versions, especially since you won’t worry about losing any pieces.  Give them a try—you may find you love them just as much as your kids do.

New Toys for 2009

All the newest toys that have hit top of the market this year so far have been electronic toys. These toys are all animated in some way. They can walk, talk, and dance. It does not matter what age group your child is in, you will find some toy that will follow along this line of entertainment.

Market research has found that a lot of children are moving away from the standard toys that we were all accustomed to playing with as children. Children today are more advanced when it comes to technology. This only fuels their need to explore a more fascinating world of animated toys.

One of the top toys at Christmas time was Spike the Dinosaur. This dinosaur will roar, walk, growl, and even play fetch with your child. It comes with a wireless remote so that you can take him or let him roam just about anywhere.

There is also Pleo the Dinosaur. This dinosaur is very close to life like. It senses movement, which will cause it to become active. This Dinosaur is full of some of the latest technology available in the toy markets. While the lifelike action may sound like it could be frightening, Pleo the Dinosaur actually has a very kid friendly appearance to him.

The animated toys are a hit among all age groups. Even young infants are drawn to the music and flashing lights of new toys. Research shows that one day even wooden blocks will be programmable. Before too long, the days of old toy cars and Barbie’s will be outdated among young kids.
