Don’t Forget the Memory Card!

Taking pictures with your digital camera is a lot of fun, but it’s no fun when you see that flashing “no more memory” message on the screen. It always seems to happen at the worst possible time, too, and you have to watch events happen that you know you’ll never have pictures of. To avoid this, you’ll want to purchase some extra memory cards.

Memory cards come in different sizes, so you’ll want to make certain you know which size your camera takes. These include SD, MicroSD, Memory Stick PRO, and more. Your camera’s instruction manual will tell you what type your camera takes. Your camera should have also come with at least one memory card, and it will tell you what kind of card it is on the label. If it doesn’t, you can always take the card to the store with you and look for a similar one.

Once you know what type of card you need, you have to decide how much memory you want to buy. Memory cards generally come in 1 MB, 2 MB, 4 MB, and 8 MB sizes, although as technology increases, larger and larger memory cards are available. Very few people purchase 1 or 2 MB cards any more simply because the 4 and 8 MB cards are fairly cheap now. The cost of four 2 MB cards, for example, is more than the cost of one 8 MB card, so it only makes sense to purchase the larger ones.

You’ll also want a camera case to store your camera and your memory cards in. You don’t want to lose your extra memory cards, which could happen if you put them in your pocket or in your purse. Even though they aren’t that expensive any longer, you don’t want to lose them, especially if they are full of great memories.
