In addition to the quality, you’ll get access to many new bonus options.  Blu-ray discs hold tons of information.  A single layer Blu-ray disc can hold 25 gigabytes of information, while a double layer holds 50.  That’s more than ten times what a single layer DVD can hold!  This means more extras per movie.  Some of these extras can even be accessed while you’re watching the film, allowing for more behind the scenes access.

Now, you may feel somewhat annoyed that you’re going to have to re-purchase all your favourite films on Blu-ray, just like you did when you upgraded from a VCR to DVD.  However, don’t run out and make those purchases right away.  Nearly all Blu-ray players are backwards compatible, meaning they will play DVDs and CDs, too!  While this isn’t required, there are very few Blu-ray players on the market that aren’t backwards compatible.  This means you don’t have to get rid of any of your DVDs if you don’t want to.
